Hello, my name is

Sean Piatt

Aspiring Software Engineer

About me

Passionate about solving real-world problems with clean code and thoughtful design—because complexity should work for people, not against them.

I design professional & well built software

As a software engineer passionate about building practical solutions that solve real problems. Whether it’s creating safety systems for lab workers or designing tools that visualize brainwave data, I love turning complex ideas into systems people can actually use. With a background in both engineering and business, I bring a well-rounded approach to development—blending technical depth with user-focused design.

Over the past few years, I’ve led projects involving Android app development, BLE-connected embedded devices, and even machine learning pipelines for EEG analysis. I’m most excited when I’m solving meaningful problems with thoughtful engineering, and I enjoy working with others who feel the same. Communication and collaboration are core to how I work, and I was honored to receive the Bruce A. McGregor Award for my technical leadership and clarity. I’m always ready for the next challenge—especially if it pushes me to learn something new and build something that matters.

Projects

I build practical, people-focused projects that turn complex problems into simple, reliable solutions.

CurrenT PROJECT

Currently taking an AWS Data Engineering course focused on building scalable data pipelines using tools like Glue, Redshift, Lambda, and Kinesis.

Highlighted Past Project

WASM (Work Alone Smart Monitor) is a smart safety system designed to make working alone in laboratories safer, smarter, and stress-free.

My Schooling

2021-Present

University of Alberta

BA Computer Engineering

Currently pursuing my Computer Engineering degree at the University of Alberta, where I’ve specialized in embedded systems, real-time applications, and system design. I’ve applied these skills in award-winning team projects, including developing a smart safety system for lone lab workers.

2016-2021

Concordia University of Edmonton

BA business Management with a focus on leadership

At Concordia, I earned my Bachelor of Business Management with a focus on leadership. I led collaborative projects in strategic planning, data analysis, and organizational behavior—sharpening my skills in communication, teamwork, and decision-making.

2011-2014

State College Area High School

HIgh School Diploma

I graduated from State College Area High School, where I balanced strong academics with extracurriculars as a member of the swim team. This experience taught me discipline, time management, and how to thrive in both team settings and individual performance.

Certifications and Awards

The Bruce A McGregor Award in Engineering Communication

I was honoured to receive the Bruce A. McGregor Award in Engineering Communication at University of Alberta for my work on the Work Alone Smart Monitor capstone project. Our project proposal stood out for its clear structure, real-world relevance, and strong technical communication that highlighted both the system’s purpose and feasibility.

HTML/CSS Core Certificate

I earned an HTML/CSS Certificate from NAIT in Alberta, where I built a strong foundation in front-end web development. The program emphasized hands-on practice in creating responsive and accessible web pages.
